17, Apr 2013: It took 20 minutes from Nijmegen to Boxmeer by local train. The train come every 30 minutes. At the Boxmeer railway station we asked to the bus driver if he goes to Sambeek. His direction was not to Sambeek, but according to him it was very easy to go there by foot. --------------------------------------------- After around 30 minutes walking, we could see a tall old tower which was under refit. A person who was at a small information office said "Keep walking then will see the tree next of street" 5 minutes walking after the office, I saw a tall tree above houses and thought it must be the linden tree. The tree was on an open patch between an agricultural farm and a roadway. --------------------------------------------- There was no leaves at this moment. The big trunk is intricately curving and divided some parts. Approx. two, three centimeter metal sticks are supporting in patches as beams to keep the shape together. There was a small sign about the back ground of the Linden tree. The weather was dry, little bit windy but pleasant day. "What are you doing?" a man asked my friend and me in Dutch. In the small talk, the man told us that he is coming from the farm next of the tree, and his father have climbed the tree when the father was young and inscribed his name on a tree somewhere. --------------------------------------------- On the way back we went to the local bar in front of the church of Sambeek. The lady from the bar told us that the tree is private-owned by a farmer family next of the tree, but it is very important for the community of Sambeek as well. --
